Futuristic NEOM Stadium, Suspended 1,150 Feet High, Pitched as 2034 World Cup Venue

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia has reportedly unveiled ambitious plans to construct the NEOM Stadium, described as the world’s first-ever “sky stadium,” as part of its ongoing efforts to revolutionise global sports infrastructure ahead of the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

According to international media reports, the futuristic, 46,000-seat arena is planned to be suspended an astonishing 1,150 feet (350 metres) above ground level within the NEOM mega-city and powered entirely by renewable energy sources, including wind and solar power. The official Saudi World Cup bid reportedly confirms the stadium’s planned use of sustainable energy.

Reports circulating on social media and international news outlets suggest that construction on the NEOM Stadium is expected to commence in 2027, with completion targeted for 2032, well ahead of the 2034 FIFA World Cup. The venue is widely rumored to be one of the host stadiums for the tournament, a bid which Saudi Arabia has officially secured.

While FIFA has confirmed Saudi Arabia as the host of the 2034 World Cup, official Saudi media outlets have yet to formally confirm the final details and concept of the “sky stadium” project. The development aligns with the Kingdom’s broader sports development vision under Vision 2030, which includes a major upgrade to sports infrastructure across the nation.

Meanwhile, attention is also turning to the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. That tournament is set to feature a record 104 matches across 16 host cities, with the official draw scheduled to take place in Washington on December 5.
