KULGAM: Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Amir Khan today flagged off “Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0” rally, organized by Chief Medical Office, Kulgam, under the National Tobacco Control Programme From mini secretariat Kulgam.
CMO Kulgam, Dr Showkat Ahmad and other officers were also present.
A large number of ASHA workers, paramedical staff, and doctors from various blocks of the district participated in the rally, carrying placards rasing slogans to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and urged the youth to adopt a healthy and tobacco-free lifestyle.
The rally passed through several markets in Kulgam town before culminating back at the Mini Secretariat, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to making the district tobacco-free.
Officials on the occasion emphasized the crucial role of community participation in curbing tobacco use and protecting future generations from its harmful impacts.

DDMA & RDD organises training programmes on IRS and Disaster Management at Shopian
SHOPIAN, OCTOBER, 24: Training programme on Incident Response System (IRS) for disaster management capacity building and community based disaster management were today conducted here at Shopian jointly by the Department of Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation and Reconstruction and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Shopian in association with the Department of Rural Development Shopian.
Expert from the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction conducted the online session on Incident Risk System for all IRS designated members of the district.
The training aimed to educate members about precautionary measures and response steps to be taken during natural calamities.
During the session, officers were sensitized about the importance of preparedness,timely response and coordination among departments to minimize the impact of disasters.
In a separate event organised by the Department of Rural Development for field functionaries and community members,the resource persons sensitised the gathering about different aspects of disaster management and relief and rehabilitation issues and the capacity building of communities for mitigating the impact of disasters.
The programme emphasized the role of field functionaries in effective disaster response and relief operations.
As part of the event, a practical demonstration was also held by the Fire and Emergency Services Department, showcasing rescue operations, fire safety drills and first-aid response techniques.
The demonstration aimed to build confidence among the participants and equip them with basic skills to tackle emergency situations efficiently.
The training concluded with an interactive session where participants shared suggestions for improving disaster preparedness and response mechanisms at the district and block levels.
