Tigers Welcome Back Skipper After Injury; Saifuddin, Soumya Omitted
CHATTOGRAM, BANGLADESH: Bangladesh’s T20I captain, Litton Das, is set to resume his leadership duties, returning to the squad for the first two T20Is against the West Indies in Chattogram next week. The wicketkeeper-batter had been sidelined for Bangladesh’s last five T20Is due to a side strain sustained during the Asia Cup last month, with Jaker Ali stepping up as captain in his absence, notably leading the team to a 3-0 T20I series sweep against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
Das’s return comes at the expense of all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin, despite his impressive 3/15 spell in the final T20I against Afghanistan. The squad also sees the omission of Soumya Sarkar, who was unable to play in the last series due to visa issues, and is replaced by Parvez Hossain Emon. Soumya’s exclusion is a surprise, given his recent score of 91 off 86 balls in the third ODI against the West Indies in Dhaka.
The selectors have largely maintained the core group of players that secured consecutive bilateral series victories against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Netherlands, and Afghanistan. The batting lineup will see Litton supported by Saif Hassan, Parvez, and Tanzid Hasan at the top, while Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, and Nurul Hasan anchor the middle order.
The three-match T20I series against the West Indies is scheduled to be played on October 27, 29, and 31.
