Stand-in T20I Skipper Miller and Pacer Coetzee Sidelined by Injury
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa : Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Thursday that experienced middle-order batter David Miller and fast bowler Gerald Coetzee have been ruled out of the upcoming white-ball series against Pakistan due to injuries.
Miller, who was set to lead South Africa in the three-match T20I series from October 28 to November 1, will miss the tour after sustaining a grade 1 right hamstring strain during training. Scans confirmed the injury on Wednesday, and the batter will now undergo a rehabilitation program.
Meanwhile, 25-year-old pacer Gerald Coetzee has been sidelined from both the T20I and the subsequent three-match One-Day International (ODI) series (November 4-8) after suffering a pectoral muscle injury. The injury occurred earlier this month while bowling during South Africa’s one-off T20I against Namibia.
The double injury setback prompted the selection panel to make immediate changes. Donovan Ferreira has been named the new T20I captain in Miller’s absence. Batters Matthew Breetzke and uncapped Tony de Zorzi have been added to the T20I squad, while paceman Ottneil Baartman replaces Coetzee in the ODI squad.
