Jammu and Kashmir: The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is currently grappling with a significant surge in dengue cases this year, with official data confirming **2,168 infections** recorded to date, nearing a total of 2,200.
The highest burden of the mosquito-borne disease has been reported in the Jammu district, which accounts for 960 cases. Other heavily affected areas include Kathua, Samba, and Udhampur. The Kashmir division has recorded 23 cases, with an additional 41 infections traced to outside states.
Health authorities have conducted a total of 20,277 tests so far this year as the region tackles the spread of the virus, which is transmitted by the *Aedes aegypti* mosquito.
Health experts have underscored that dengue continues to pose a major public health challenge and have issued a critical advisory focusing on prevention. Doctors have specifically warned the public about the mosquito’s peak activity periods.
“Dengue-carrying mosquitoes are most active during **early morning and late afternoon hours**,” stated a health official. “We strongly advise people to take preventive steps during these times, including using mosquito nets or screens while sleeping, even during the day.”
Authorities have once again called for community action to combat the spread, stressing the importance of cleanliness and the immediate removal of stagnant water from surrounding areas, which serve as breeding grounds for the dangerous vector.
