NEW DELHI – India’s rising opener Yashasvi Jaiswal on Friday equalled legendary South Africa batter Graeme Smith’s record for scoring the most Test centuries as an opener before turning 24.
Jaiswal achieved the historic milestone on the opening day of India’s second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where he brought up his seventh Test ton.
His monumental innings helped him draw level with Smith, who set the initial record of scoring seven Test centuries as an opener before his 24th birthday in 2004.
The achievement is made more impressive by the fact that Jaiswal reached the milestone in just 48 innings, which is two fewer than the 50 innings taken by Smith.
The duo now jointly leads this exclusive list, which also features other batting greats, including England’s Sir Alastair Cook and Len Hutton. ATP
