JMC conducts massive anti-encroachment drive across Jammu City

Advises public to abide by Municipal Regulations
JAMMU: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), on the directions of Commissioner and direct supervision of Joint Commissioner (R&E), today carried out a major enforcement drive, taking decisive action against illegal constructions and encroachments within the city limits. The operation underscores the JMC’s commitment to ensuring adherence to municipal laws, planned urban development and public health standards.
In a significant move, the JMC has sealed a restaurant named “The Street” located in Sainik Colony, Jammu. The establishment was found to be operating without the necessary permissions and valid municipal licenses, constituting a serious violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. The sealing action was executed by the Enforcement Wing of the JMC after due process.
Meanwhile, the JMC conducted an extensive demolition drive along Canal Road, targeting and successfully removing numerous illegal shanties (jhuggis) set up on state land. These encroachments not only obstruct public access and pose a challenge to planned infrastructure development but are also a significant source of insanitary conditions and public health hazards in the area.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation has appealed to all citizens, commercial establishments, and prospective builders to strictly adhere to municipal regulations and planning norms.
The Municipal Corporation has urged the public to obtain the requisite building permissions, trade licenses and No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the JMC before undertaking any construction, commercial activity or change of land use. Operating or constructing without approval is illegal and will invite strict action, including sealing and demolition.
The citizens have further advised to desist from Encroachment and refrain from setting up illegal shanties (jhuggis) or encroach upon public land, including roads, parks, and drainage channels. These illegal structures severely compromise sanitation, public safety and the aesthetics of the city. Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is a collective responsibility, and illegal settlements often lead to unhygienic conditions, posing a risk to the health of the community.
Deputy Commissioner (North/South), Enforcement Officers and Enforcement Inspectors of JMC were also part of the drives.
