General public advised to visit and buy craft products at affordable rates, support artisans
SRINAGAR: A 10-day UT level Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, was inaugurated at Kashmir Haat, here today, showcasing Kashmir’s famed handicrafts and handloom products.
Director, Handicrafts and Handloom, Kashmir, Mussarat Islam, along with Assistant Director, Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Rafiq Ahmad, Manager Central Market, and other senior officers, were present on the occasion.
Organized by the Ministry of Textiles, GoI, as many as 70 stalls have been installed for artisans and weavers to display a wide range of exclusive Kashmir Handicrafts including Sozni embroidery on Pashmina, Kani Shawls, Crewel Embroidery, Chain stitch and Aari work.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Handicrafts urged the general public to come to Kashmir Haat in large numbers and buy authentic handmade products on extremely affordable prices. “By buying directly from the artisans, you shall support the department’s endeavor to safeguard the interests of the community,” he stated.
The Director interacted with all the stall holders and advised them to invest in packaging to give their unique products of Kashmir an aesthetic look. “The Department will continue to focus on implementation of welfare schemes for benefit of artisans and also provide them platforms for display and sale of their unique craft products,” he added.
