Wicketkeeper-Batter Continues Rehab, Dhruv Jurel Poised to Take Over Gloves

AHMEDABAD – India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to miss the upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies, which begins on October 2. The decision comes as Pant continues his rehabilitation from a fractured left foot he sustained during India’s tour of England earlier this year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team is overseeing Pant’s recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Reports indicate that while the hard cast on his foot has been removed, he is still focusing on strength and conditioning and has not yet resumed batting or wicketkeeping practice. There is currently no firm timeline for his return to competitive cricket.

The injury, which occurred during the fourth Test in Manchester, forced Pant to miss the final match of the series, where he was replaced by N Jagadeesan. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel, who also filled in as wicketkeeper for the last two Tests against England, is expected to take over the gloves for the series against the West Indies.

The Indian selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is scheduled to meet on September 24 to finalize a 15-member squad for the series. Jurel’s recent form with the India A squad, where he is currently playing against Australia A, makes him the front-runner for the role. The selectors may also consider Jagadeesan as a potential back-up wicketkeeper, as he has also been part of the India A squad.
