Clinical Chase Secures Australia a Resounding Win Over India in Mullanpur ODI
Mullanpur -Australia’s women’s cricket team delivered a commanding performance to defeat the Indian Women’s team by eight wickets in an ODI match at Punjab’s Yadavindra Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The visitors showcased their batting prowess by successfully chasing a challenging target of 282 runs with 35 balls to spare, finishing at 282 for 2 in just 44.1 overs.
Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Indian women’s team posted a competitive total of 281 for seven in their 50 overs. India’s innings was built on solid half-centuries from Pratika Rawal (64 off 96 balls), Smriti Mandhana (58 off 63), and Harleen Deol (54 off 57), which set a respectable total.
However, Australia’s batters made light work of the chase. The top order was in sublime form, with Phoebe Litchfield leading the charge with a fluent 88. She was well-supported by Beth Mooney, who anchored the innings with an unbeaten 77, and Annabel Sutherland, who contributed a quick-fire 54 not out. Their collective effort ensured that Australia reached the target comfortably, denying India’s bowlers any significant breakthroughs. The defeat will prompt India to reassess their strategy as they look to bounce back in the remainder of the series.
