Ganderbal: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore Thursday chaired a meeting in his office chamber here to deliberate on the modalities for developing winter sports infrastructure at the world-famous tourist destination Sonamarg.
The meeting held detailed discussions on the existing infrastructure and the additional facilities required to establish world-class winter sports infrastructure at Sonamarg.
DC requested the Managing Director, JKCCC, to formulate a comprehensive proposal in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer, Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), identifying both short-term and long-term facilities needed for winter sports, for submission to higher authorities for approval.
In order to promote Sonamarg as a premier winter sports hub, DC instructed the CEO, SDA to initiate measures for conducting winter sports events, skiing training programmes, development of an ice skating rink, and notification of designated skiing areas so that skiers and tourists are well-informed about the available facilities.
DC also emphasized the need for advance preparations for the upcoming winter season and directed the SDA to prepare a detailed action plan for smooth conduct of winter sports activities.
The meeting was attended by MD JKCCC, Syed Qamar Sajad; CEO SDA, Bilal Mukhtar and other concerned officials.
