Says “Road clearance efforts continue, road to be opened soon for traffic”
Shopian : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta today visited various stretches of the historic Mughal Road, enroute Pir Ki Gali to assess road restoration operations post landslides and rockfalls during the intervening night of September, 2 & 3.
DC conducted an on-ground inspection of damaged stretches, caused by slides and rockfall and evaluated the removal of rockfall and debris in vulnerable zones, directing relevant agencies, including engineers from BEACON to ramp up resources and efforts to restore operational status at the earliest for traffic movement.
Today early morning, the administration had pressed into service men and machinery for debris clearance works to ensure the prompt restoration of the road.
During the visit, DC exhorted upon the concerned to expedite the restoration works so that the road is reopened for vital connectivity between the Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
The road was closed for vehicular traffic, last night due to heavy and continuous downpours due to which some stretches of the road had been damaged.
DC was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz; Tehsildar Shopian, and other concerned.
