JAMMU – Rail services in the Jammu Division have been completely suspended for the third consecutive day and will remain paralyzed for the foreseeable future, as flash floods and soil erosion have caused significant damage to railway infrastructure. Northern Railway authorities have announced the cancellation of 40 scheduled trains to and from Jammu, with a total of 24 Up trains and 16 Down trains affected.
The primary cause for the disruption is the misalignment on Bridge number 17 along the Kathua-Madhopur Punjab Downline, which was severely impacted by flash floods. Additionally, multiple breaches have occurred at various locations across the Jammu division, making rail traffic unsafe.
The suspension has left thousands of passengers stranded at railway stations. In a bid to assist them, the Jammu Division, in collaboration with the Railway Police and District Administration, ran two special trains on Thursday, transporting over 3,000 passengers to their destinations. The railway administration also arranged for food and water at major stations including Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Pathankot Cantt, and Pathankot City to provide relief to the affected travelers.
Due to the ongoing repair work and unstable conditions, Northern Railway has also short-terminated or short-originated 12 other trains, advising passengers to check for updates before planning their travel.
