Students strengthen their pledge for a drug-free tomorrow
PULWAMA: As part of the ongoing Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, district administration Pulwama, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Office and Education department, today continued its series of school outreach programmes aimed at sensitising students about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
The programmes witnessed active participation of students, school authorities, teachers, resource persons from Health and Social Welfare departments and officials from other concerned departments.
During the sessions, resource persons delivered informative lectures and engaged students through interactive discussions on the physical, mental, and social consequences of drug abuse. Emphasis was laid on the importance of early awareness, healthy lifestyle choices, and the proactive role of students in promoting a drug-free environment within their institutions and communities.
Speaking during the programme, officials emphasised that drug abuse poses a serious threat to individual health and social fabric, and tackling it requires joint efforts of parents, teachers, community elders and youth. They urged students to act as ambassadors of the campaign and spread awareness in their homes and neighbourhoods.
Medical experts and counsellors provided guidance on identifying early signs of substance use and encouraged students to seek help without hesitation. Students also took a collective pledge to lead a drug-free life and to act as responsible citizens in spreading awareness among their peers.
The campaign will continue in the coming days with more educational institutions being covered, ensuring that the message of prevention, awareness, and support reaches every student in the district.
