DC Reasi felicitates weavers, artisans on National Handloom Day

REASI: The District Administration Reasi, in collaboration with the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu, celebrated National Handloom Day at the DC Office Complex, Reasi, to promote the handloom sector and honour the contributions of local artisans.

Deputy Commissioner Reasi Nidhi Malik felicitated skilled weavers and artisans from across the district for their achievements in handloom and handicrafts. Certificates of appreciation and training diplomas were awarded to recognise their dedication and craftsmanship.

The event featured a short video on the significance of National Handloom Day, certificate distribution for recently trained artisans, and poem recitations by local craftsmen. Weavers also shared success stories with the Deputy Commissioner, highlighting the impact of recent training programmes. A handloom pledge was taken by all participants, reaffirming their commitment to traditional crafts.

The Deputy Commissioner underlined the importance of preserving traditional arts and crafts as vital cultural assets and key drivers of rural employment. She reiterated the administration’s support for the “Vocal for Local” initiative and government schemes for artisans.

A hands-on craft workshop for students was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, who encouraged them to engage sincerely with traditional crafts alongside their academics. A small exhibition of local artisans’ work also drew appreciation from attendees.

The event was attended by CPO Reasi Narinder Kumar, Assistant Director Handloom Ujwal Singh, AHTO and other officials.
