Horror Crashes at Red Bull Rampage: Two Riders Airlifted in Utah Desert

CHENNAI — India created sporting history on Sunday by clinching its first-ever Squash World Cup title with a commanding 3–0 victory over top seeds Hong Kong, China. The historic win, achieved at the Express Avenue Mall in Chennai, marks the first time an Asian nation has lifted the trophy in the tournament’s five-edition history.

The Indian quartet of Joshna Chinappa, Abhay Singh, Anahat Singh, and Velavan Senthilkumar delivered a flawless performance in the final. Veteran star Joshna Chinappa set the tone with a 3–1 win, followed by Abhay Singh’s clinical 3–0 sweep. Seventeen-year-old sensation Anahat Singh then sealed the championship with another straight-game victory, rendering the final match unnecessary.

Congratulations poured in from the country’s highest offices. President Droupadi Murmu praised the team’s “superlative performance,” stating they had made the entire nation proud. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the athletes’ dedication and discipline, noting that this victory would “boost the popularity of squash among our youth” and strengthen India’s global sporting presence.

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Home Minister Amit Shah also joined in the celebrations, with Shah remarking that the team’s “indomitable sporting prowess” would serve as an inspiration for future generations.

The triumph marks a significant leap for Indian squash, improving upon the bronze medal won in 2023. With squash set to make its Olympic debut at LA 2028, this world title cements India’s position as a rising powerhouse in the sport.
