Kishtwar : In pursuance to the Calendar of Activities issued by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority (JKLSA) for the month of December 2025, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kishtwar, under the supervision and guidance of the Learned Chairman, Sudhir Khajuria and the Learned Secretary Meera Bangotra, organized awareness programme to mark Human Rights Day here at College of Nursing Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University.
The programme was conducted with the objective of sensitizing students and staff about Human Rights, their importance in day-to-day life, and their intrinsic connection with the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of India.
The event was attended by Vinay Kumar Shan, Iram Sabha and Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsels (LADCs), who served as the resource persons.
Vinay Kumar Shan, Assistant LADC formally inaugurated the programme and introduced the participants to the concept, significance and contemporary relevance of Human Rights. He emphasized that Human Rights form the moral and legal foundation of a just, inclusive and equitable society.
Iram Dabha Assistant LADC, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), 1948, highlighting its core principles of equality, liberty, dignity and non-discrimination. She explained how these universal principles guide nations across the globe in protecting the rights of individuals.
The concluding session was conducted by Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel, who elaborated on the linkage between Human Rights and the Fundamental Rights guaranteed under the Constitution of India.
He explained how Human Rights are transformed into enforceable Fundamental Rights with legal remedies against violations. He also apprised the participants about the rights of an arrested person, including the right to be informed of the grounds of arrest, the right to legal aid, the right to be produced before a Magistrate within 24 hours and protection against unlawful detention.
Students and staff participated actively raised queries related to their rights and received detailed clarifications from the resource persons.
The programme significantly enhanced awareness about Human Rights and the legal mechanisms available for their protection.
The District Legal Services Authority, Kishtwar expressed gratitude to the administration of the College of Nursing, Kishtwar, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University for their cooperation and support in the successful conduct of the programme.
Further, the Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of DLSA Kishtwar also organized a series of awareness programmes in their respective areas on the occasion of Human Rights Day.
