SLC Shifts Five-Team Tournament to July-August Window
COLOMBO, SRI LANKA: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the revised schedule for the sixth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), confirming the tournament will now be held from July 8 to August 8, 2026.
The five-team domestic T20 competition was originally slated for the November-December 2025 window but was postponed last month to ensure host venues are adequately prepared for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Sri Lanka will co-host the global tournament with India from February 7 to March 8, 2026. The SLC stated that the postponement was necessary to allow for the “broader requirement of preparing the ‘Host Venues’ well in advance” for the major international event.
With this decision, the LPL’s sixth edition will return to a mid-year window, a slot utilized for several of its previous seasons. The move allows the SLC to focus entirely on infrastructure enhancement and upgrading ground facilities to meet the standards required for the T20 World Cup.
