India Set for Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup Opener Against Namibia Today
Jyoti Singh-Led Squad Kicks Off Campaign in Expanded 24-Team FIH Junior World Cup
SANTIAGO: The Indian Junior Women’s Hockey team is set to kick off its FIH Hockey Junior World Cup 2025 campaign today in Santiago, Chile, with an opening match against Namibia. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:45 PM Indian Standard Time.
This edition of the tournament is historic, featuring an expanded field of 24 teams for the first time. The competing nations have been split into six pools of four teams each.
India has been drawn into the challenging Pool C, alongside inaugural champions Germany, Ireland, and their first opponents, Namibia. The team will be aiming to build on the nation’s sole medal at this level—a dramatic bronze won in 2013.
The 18-member Indian squad is being led by skipper Jyoti Singh, with Tushar Khandker serving as the chief coach. The team will look for a strong start to build momentum in their pursuit of a podium finish in the prestigious global tournament.
