Doda: Deputy Commissioner (DC), Harvinder Singh Tuesday chaired a meeting with officers of the Revenue Department and other stakeholder departments to discuss the revision of stamp duty rates for the year 2026.
The meeting was attended by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), SE PWD, ACP, GM DIC, Executive Officers of Municipal Committees and other concerned Officers. The ADC Bhaderwah and SDMs also participated in the meeting through virtual mode.
The DC emphasized the need to remove discrepancies between existing stamp duty structures and the current market value of land. “The proposed rates need to be realistic, transparent and aligned with ground realities,” he said.
The concerned officers were directed to take a detailed review of the existing rates and submit proposals backed by proper reasoning and factual assessment. “The revised stamp duty rates must maintain a balance between fair valuation and the government’s revenue interests, without burdening the public,” he stressed.
Highlighting the ongoing and proposed developmental activities in the district, the DC noted that land prices have surged in several areas due to increased construction and commercial transactions. He stated that a realistic revision of stamp duty rates is essential to match emerging market trends and ensure a more regulated system of sale and purchase of land.
