DLSA Bandipora Organises Multiple Awareness Programmes on MWPSC Act

BANDIPORA: Under the leadership of   Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (Patron-in-Chief, J&K Legal Services Authority), Justice Arun Palli, and Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority, Justice Sanjeev Kumar,  the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Bandipora, in collaboration with the Education Department Bandipora and Social Welfare Department Bandipora, organised Legal Awareness Programmes on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act, 2007 at multiple locations across the district.

The initiative was overseen by   Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Shazia Tabasum, and  Chairman DLSA (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Bandipora, Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, and conducted under the guidance of  Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Bandipora Sheikh Babar Hussain.

The programmes was aimed at educating students, senior citizens, community members, and stakeholders about their legal rights and statutory protections under the Act.

The awareness programmes were held at several locations including Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Plan Bandipora, Senior Citizens Home (Old Age Home), Bandipora, Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Mantrigam Bandipora, Govt. Girls High School, Nadihal Bandipora, Babies Land Secondary School, Sumbal, J&K Educational and Social Welfare Trust, Sumbal, CDPO Office, Sumbal, Model Anganwadi Centre, Dawar, Gurez, Bal Vidyalaya Anganwadi Centre B, Dawar, Gurez and Army Goodwill School, Gurez.

The sessions focused on key topics including Legal rights of parents and senior citizens under the Act, Procedures for filing and enforcing maintenance claims, the role of DLSA and TLSCs in providing free legal aid and ensuring access to justice, Promoting respect, dignity, care, and protection of senior citizens within families and communities.

Through these programmes, DLSA Bandipora and the TLSCs of Bandipora, Sumbal, and Gurez reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening legal literacy, ensuring social justice, and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable groups.

 The awareness drives witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, senior citizens, and social workers across the district.
