Code of Conduct Breach: Rana Hit with 25% Match Fee Fine and Demerit Point for Throwing Ball at Cade Carmichael
SYLHET, BANGLADESH: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday penalized Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the opening day of the first Test against Ireland in Sylhet. The right-arm pacer was found guilty of a Level 1 offence related to “throwing a ball… at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner.”
The incident occurred in the 27th over of Ireland’s innings. After fielding the ball on his follow-through, Rana threw it back towards batter Cade Carmichael, hitting him on the pads, despite the batter having remained inside his crease.
As a penalty for breaching Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, Rana was sanctioned with A fine of 25 per cent of his match fee and One demerit point added to his disciplinary record. This marks the 23-year-old pacer’s first offence within a 24-month period. Accumulating four or more demerit points within two years can lead to a suspension.
Rana swiftly admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee Andy Pycroft of the ICC Elite Panel, thus eliminating the need for a formal hearing. The charge was leveled by the four match officials: on-field umpires Sam Nogajski and Ahsan Raza, third umpire Richard Illingworth, and fourth umpire Tanvir Ahmed.
