Tribunal directs SSB to accept applications of candidates posessing knowledge in any of 5 official languages
Srinagar: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has temporarily halted the enforcement of a significant provision in the Jammu & Kashmir Revenue (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules. This provision mandated that candidates for the Naib Tehsildar position must have a graduation degree along with proficiency in Urdu as the sole language qualification.
Sources said that the tribunal’s interim order was issued in response to a petition that contested this language requirement. In its ruling, the CAT instructed the Jammu & Kashmir Service Selection Board to accept applications from candidates who hold a graduation degree and have knowledge of any of the five official languages recognized under the 2020 Act, which include Hindi, Kashmiri, English, Dogri, and Urdu. Additionally, the tribunal has requested that the respondents submit their replies within four weeks regarding the challenge to the mandatory Urdu qualification for the Naib Tehsildar posts.
