RAMBAN: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), under the chairmanship of the Director General YSS J&K, inaugurated the UT-Level Inter-District Chess Tournament (U/17 Girls) at Government Girls High School, Batote.
DDC Chairperson Ramban Dr. Shamshad Shan was the Chief Guest, while DYSSO Jagdish Raj Sharma attended as Guest of Honour along with officials from various districts.
Dr. Shan welcomed all participating teams from 16 districts of J&K and appreciated DYSS Ramban for promoting sports and youth engagement. She expressed happiness in hosting the young athletes, teachers and coaches in district Ramban and commended their dedication and enthusiasm. She further assured that the Department of Youth Services and Sports would continue to organize such events in the future, emphasizing that these tournaments not only promote sports but also boost tourism and community engagement in the region.
The DYSSO, in his address, highlighted the role of sports in character building, fitness and mental well-being, urging youth to stay away from drugs and adopt sports as a way of life.
The tournament, hosted amid an enthusiastic atmosphere, will feature spirited matches over the next few days, culminating in the finals and felicitation of outstanding performers.
Prominent among those present were ZEPO Banihal Mohammad Saifullah Mir, ZPEO Khari Fayaz Ahmed Mir, PEM DYSSO Ramban Joginder Paul Gupta and PEM GHSS Pogal, Mohd Haroon Bhat.
