Leh, Ladakh: The Ladakh Union Territory (UT) administration has initiated significant confidence-building measures aimed at restoring normalcy and peace in the Leh district following recent violence. A Peace Coordination Meeting was convened by Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal to bridge the gap between the administration and the civil society.
The high-level meeting saw the participation of various key stakeholders, including leaders of the Apex Body, prominent Community and Religious Leaders, the Chief Executive Councillor of the Leh Hill Council, and members of various Political Parties.
As a crucial step towards de-escalation, the UT administration restored Mobile Data Services yesterday, which had been suspended since September 26 following the violent clashes.
Chief Secretary Dr. Kotwal emphasized the UT Administration’s unwavering commitment to the “peace, justice, and the welfare of Ladakh’s citizens.” He also reassured the leaders that the Government of India has already addressed the issues of domicile and job reservation in the interest of the people of Ladakh. He expressed hope that the remaining demands would also be resolved soon to ensure lasting peace and harmony in the region.
The Chief Secretary further stated to the media that the meeting was held in a “positive environment,” and the administration has officially noted all the demands and issues raised by the participating leaders.
The meeting concluded on a solemn note, with the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police (DGP) Ladakh, and all stakeholders observing a two-minute silence in memory of the victims who lost their lives in the violent clash.
