JAMMU: The 7th Fazil Abbas Memorial Inter Department Volleyball Tournament concluded today at the Government Polytechnic College, Bikram Chowk. The 2 day sports event was inaugurated by the Principal of the institute Er. Talet Mahmood the other day and was also the Chief Guest at the Final match of the Tournament.
The tournament is held every year in the memory of an Ex. student Late Fazil Abbas, who lost his life in an unfortunate accident and was a very good player of Volleyball besides being good in studies.
In the first Semi-final of the tournament, the Electrical Department team trounced the Computer Engineering Department in a hotly contested match. Ramnik Singh from 5th Semester Electrical Department displayed excellent skills in spiking.
In the second semi-final, the Mechanical Engineering Department gave a good fight to the Automobile team and won 2-1.
In the final match, the Electrical Engineering Department beat the Mechanical Engineering Department in a very close contest.
The audience was spellbound by the long rallies of smashes and blocks by the players. The matches were officiated by Naresh Sharma, a national level volleyball referee along with Chamel Singh PEM, Harjot Kour and Toshi Devi, PET.
After the final match, the Chief Guest gave away prizes and trophies to winning and runner up team. He applauded the students for taking part in Games & Sports which will instill new spark in their daily routine and rejuvenate them with fresh zeal and vigor. He also hailed the efforts of the sports wing of the Institute for organizing such sports events and engaging the students in various sports activities.
Among others present on the occasion included Er. Raj Shekhar HOD, Automobile Engineering; Sukhdeep Singh HOD Civil Engineering; Sanjay Koul HOD Computer Engineering; Rani Devi HOD Computer Engineering; Er.P K Angral Lecturer-I; Amit Gupta Lecturer-I; Ashok Verma, Rakesh Khullar and Sandeep Verma and Er. Vicky Sharma, Sports Secretary, Amit Kumar Sharma. Incharge HoD Travel & Tourism presented the vote of thanks for the chief guest and all the audience present.
