Ladakh LG Assess Security At High-level Security Review meet at Leh

Educational institutions to remain closed for 2 days

Leh: The district administration in Ladakh has maintained strict restrictions for a second consecutive day following recent violence, with a ban on gatherings of five or more people in Leh and Kargil to ensure law and order.
Officials on Thursday said that the situation is under control, with no incidents occurring on Thursday. Approximately 50 individuals involved in the protests have been detained, and the bodies of deceased protesters have been returned to their families. A Congress councillor accused of inciting the protests has been charged, and further actions against other political leaders involved are anticipated. Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta has called for increased vigilance and effective inter-agency coordination to maintain peace and security in the region, as highlighted in a high-level security review meeting. The Union Home Ministry attributed the unrest to provocative speeches by activist Sonam Wangchuk. In response to the situation, the administration has ordered the closure of all educational institutions, including government and private schools, colleges, and coaching centers in Leh for two days.
