Games to witness large-scale participation from 72 countries
New Delhi – The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its green light to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to submit a bid to host the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2030. This decision includes the approval to sign the Host Collaboration Agreement and provide financial guarantees and grant-in-aid to the Gujarat government if the bid is successful.
Ahmedabad has been identified as the proposed host city for the 2030 Games. The city is touted as an “ideal host” due to its world-class stadiums and modern training facilities. The Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest stadium globally, has already showcased its capabilities by successfully hosting the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Final.
The proposal highlights the significant benefits of hosting the CWG. The event is expected to attract athletes, coaches, officials, and tourists from 72 countries, generating revenue and boosting local businesses. It’s also projected to create numerous job opportunities across diverse sectors beyond sports, including:
Sports Science, Event Operations and Management, Logistics and Transport Coordination, Broadcast and Media, IT and Communications, Public Relations
Hosting the prestigious event is seen as a way to foster a strong sense of national pride and unity. By providing a shared national experience, the Games are expected to boost morale and inspire a new generation of athletes to pursue sports as a career.
