MUMBAI – The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a formidable 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, which will be hosted by India. Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the side in her first 50-over World Cup as skipper, with Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy. The tournament begins on September 30.
The squad blends experienced players with promising new talent. Notably, aggressive opener Shafali Verma has been left out of the final squad, a decision that has sparked considerable discussion. Her exclusion comes after she was also dropped from the ODI leg of the recent series against England.
Inclusions of rising stars like Pratika Rawal and Kranti Gaud highlight the selectors’ focus on recent performance. Rawal has been in spectacular form, accumulating over 700 runs in just 14 matches since her debut late last year, while Gaud impressed with a six-wicket haul during the series win in England. The squad also sees the return of pacer Renuka Singh Thakur from injury.
